KO-FI IS CRACKING DOWN ON NSFW CREATORS

Please spread this post around.

Here we are once again, with NSFW creators being censored into oblivion.

Apparently, Ko-Fi has deemed it illegal/prohibited to POST or even LINK to NSFW content on your Ko-Fi profile page, meaning my account has been “unpublished”. This means my page is disabled to everyone except myself unless I make changes to comply with their policies.

I’ve removed all of my gallery links (DA, Tumblr, Patreon) and just sent a message to their support team asking to have my account re-instated, I’ll give updates when I receive them.

In the meantime, if you’re an NSFW creator and have ANY NSFW content posted or linked on your Ko-Fi page, well, it looks like you better start deleting it. Check out their policy page below:

Acting like someone can’t do anything bad because of a demographic trait is patronizing; agency and being a person also means the ability to do bad.

Both of these things are bad and treat real people as stereotyped characteristics (and this goes regardless of whether the trait is “privileged” or “oppressed”), and if you do those things, you should feel bad.

I will not delete my account–if tumblr wants to delete me, they’d bloody well put in the effort–but I don’t expect to be posting here much after 12/16. Already I’ve been posting much less here, only looking at push notifications, loading the activity page, and transferring contact info to my own spreadsheet (so I can keep in touch with people; it’s a private Roladex of sorts and it’s staying offline). On 12/16 in the evening, I will be turning off all push notifications and force-stopping the app, and not logging back in until 12/18, and then mostly to lurk rather than post. Currently, I’m posting the most on Twitter; it’s better for off-the-cuff shitposts than PF and DW, though I’m checking my feeds on those too.

As far as I can tell, nobody is actually protesting “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” or “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” though news outlets are all over these not-stories. The issue is that these news outlets and the people who buy into them can’t tell the difference between people discussing/critiquing a thing and demanding a thing be censored. 

Which…explains a lot, if you think about it.

so heres the short version of what happened:

“being aro/ace doesnt inherently make you not straight!”

“attraction to no one does not fit into heteronormative ideals.”

“the ONLY THING that can make your orientation non straight is same gender attraction.”

“well some bi people arent attracted to their own gender, yet are still attracted to multiple genders because…. there are more than two of those….”

“saying that youre bi because youre attracted to nonbinary people is FETISHIZATION! no, what attraction to enbies really means is that youre attracted to whatever binary gender i want to associate then with”

as you can see, around that last point their argument kinda… turned into a hot mess. not that it wasnt already but it got really obvious there. but yeah if you dig deep enough it came from exclusionists trying to justify their aphobia

The other interestingly awful thing about this is, it pretty directly maps to radfem gender protectionism, i.e. it uses the same logical construct:

“Men are so powerful in contrast to women that we must shield women from making their own relationship decisions. We should be resigned to centering masculinity and not try to fight it, but also criticize all men in relationships with women as being inherently predatory or creepy, no matter what their partners say about them.”

Search and replace:

“Cis people are so powerful in contrast to nonbinary people that we must shield enbies from making their own relationship decisions. We should be resigned to centering binary genders and not try to fight it, but also criticize all cis people in relationships with enbies as being inherently predatory or creepy, no matter what their partners say about them.”

The other interesting thing about this is that if you try to argue with people who are saying these things, their example will universally be a specific example involving a “straight man” and a female-aligned nonbinary person, as if no other types of cis people or nb people existed to them. They scratched the serial numbers off, but they didn’t scratch that deep.

As a side note, this also tracks with some of Umberto Eco’s observations on fascist rhetoric, in which the enemy/scapegoat is portrayed simultaneously as all-powerful and weak/foolish.

Read Defending Pornography: Free Speech, Sex, and the Fight for Women’s Rights by Nadine Strossen

Excerpts:

“In the late 80s and early 90s there was a vocal group of radical feminists who believed that pornography inherently harms women, not just in its production but also in its consumption… These anti-pornography feminists teamed up with the religious right and managed to get anti-porn laws passed. In particular, a law was passed in Canada preventing the importation of “obscene” material”..

…. Guess what was seized first? “The Joy of Gay Sex” and the like. Guess what businesses started finding all their shipments seized or delayed – sexually explicit or not – to the point where they were being put out of business? Gay bookstores.  Guess what wasn’t seized at all? Mainstream porn made for straight men…..

Here’s the key point: Strossen is a legal scholar who’s looked at a lot of attempts at censorship, and you know what she found happened every time? When you try to censor pornography, even in the interests of protecting vulnerable people, that censorship will be applied first, and hardest, against the people who are most vulnerable. They won’t come for actual abusers, they’ll come for the abused, and prevent them from accessing resources, education, talking to each other, creating art to express themselves, or organising against those who are actually causing harm. 

This is old, old business, we’ve seen it more than once before, and it never goes the way the antis think it will. Censorship is a tool that gives power to abusers and lets them inflict more harm on those who are abused, vulnerable and discriminated against. Don’t fall for it.

I love that folks will look at a homeless person w a dog and performatively feel sorry 4 the dog and start bitching like there isnt a miserable, hungry, suffering person in front of them. If ppl gave the dude one of them empty houses in town or in the burbs n some food money u wouldnt have 2 see them or their dog on yr drive to yr office job jst sayin jst throwin that out there, like the infrastructure n the resources r already there.

And the same people don’t blink over stray animals, it’s just when a homeless person is *taking care of that animal*. They’d rather the animal not have someone look out for them at all in any way than be cared for by someone who’s too poor for their taste.

Banker 3: “Oooh! I know! Let’s find some investors to loan us the money at high interest rates, which we will then guarantee with the assets of the Acme Company. That way, we won’t have to put up much money, and the investors can get their money back out of the company’s profits.”

Banker 1: “Nice. And here’s a thought: we can charge the investors exorbitant fees for putting the deal together.”

Banker 2: “Yes! And you know, we can charge Acme exorbitant fees, too, for our management ‘advice’ and ‘expertise.’”

Banker 3: “I love it. We make money no matter what … even if the business tanks.”

Banker 4: “Just a question, guys: if we take all of Acme’s profits in fees and loan payments, how will they invest in their business? How will they modernize their product lines, refresh their stores, and invest in online sales?”

General laughter erupts.

Banker 4: “Sorry, guys. I just had a moment. Forgive me.”
